Amanda Cy has shared her wicked new single ‘Yangtze’.
The Stockholm based riser set herself a challenge when writing the song – to channel something direct, and melodic. Citing MUNA as a key influence, Amanda Cy comes close to the American group’s stunning songwriting on this zesty single.
Out now, ‘Yangtze’ is designed as a moment of release, an emotional outpouring that fringes sadness, before daring to embrace joy. Surging to that daredevil chorus, Amanda Cy sings: “I cry me a river, yeah a Yangtze…”
Part of her incoming EP ‘Waterworks’ – out on May 23rd y’know – the track finds Amanda Cy hitting a new level, calling it “an ode to crying and how good it can feel.”
Discussing the song, she says…
Conveniently, the process of writing Yangtze turned out to be relatively fluid. I knew I wanted to write a pop-banger à la MUNA, and had the idea of naming it Yangtze in the back of my head.
After dealing with a long creative dip, I decided that I wanted to start producing my own demos and I spent my Christmas in 2021 experimenting with production techniques. I then realised that the chorus-idea for Yangtze fit perfectly on top of one of my own production loops. That unlocked everything.
Tune in now.
