Alt-J have been announced winners of the 2012 Barclaycard Mercury Prize for their 'An Awesome Wave' album.

The 2012 Mercury Prize introduced a series of free 'Albums Of The Year Live' gigs featuring some of the bands and artists nominated with donations encouraged from gig-goers for the War Child charity.

The full list of this year's nominees were:

Michael Kiwanuka 'Home Again'
Sam Lee 'Ground of its Own'
Django Django 'Django Django'
Ben Howard 'Every Kingdom'
Previous winners of the prize include PJ Harvey, for her 'Let England Shake' album, in 2011 and Primal Scream, for 'Screamadelica', at the inaugural 1992 awards.
