Influential New York art-punk duo Suicide are set to be honoured with a series of twelve, limited edition, EPs celebrating the bands work.
Each EP, limited to 4,000 copies, will contain a series of exclusive covers of Suicide’s material. The group have moved from their art-punk origins to become respected figures in the music world, with their early material being regarded as one of the foundations for electronic music as we know it. The tribute to the band comes as frontman Alan Vega celebrates his 60th birthday.
Amongst the bands who are lining up to pay tribute Suicide are Primal Scream, Peaches, Grinderman and Bruce Springsteen. The Boss has previously covered the group’s single “Dream Baby Dream” onstage, and has publicly extolled the group as an archetypal rock ‘n’ roll band.
Each EP will also be backed with an unreleased Suicide / Alan Vega live track. In addition to this, Suicide will also released a 6-CD boxset of their notorious live shows – after bombarding unsuspecting audiences with electronic noise the group would frequently be caught up in genuine riots.
The first EP, featuring Bruce Springsteen, will be released on July 28th.
