Alice Russell’s ‘I Am’ Is A Revelation

Her most personal record yet...

UK singer Alice Russell returns with eagerly-awaited new album ‘I Am’.

Out now on Tru Thoughts, the record is her first album release in a decade, and spans motherhood, grief, and survival. Th process of making ‘I Am’ took Alice Russell back to the core of her artistry, questioning her motivations along the way.

Emerging stronger than ever before, Alice Russell aims for pure communication on her jazz-fringed songwriting. Long-time collaborator TM Juke works intimately on the project, while the songwriter was empowered by her experiences in therapy.

“I had started therapy soon after my first child was born, and it opened up a bigger understanding of myself and some relationships that had shaped my emotional landscape,” she recalls. “Finding our own power, clear boundaries, and doing the work on ourselves to love so much more deeply.”

“Two little ones have joined me, and one has left – my dad passed away the summer after ‘To Dust’ was released. The day after my Dad’s funeral, I found out I was pregnant with my first little one,” Alice continues: “The grief journey has cracked me open and created a more urgent need to be focused and try to go deeper with how I communicate creatively and who I AM today, and I welcome it with open arms”.

Tune in now.
