Alex James To Judge Battle Of The Bands

As part of Harvest festival

Blur bass player Alex James is set to judge a new Battle of the Bands competition in conjunction with Olympus.

Having spent more than a decade ruling the roost in British music, Alex James knows a thing or two about getting to the top. Swapping Blur for life on a farm, the bass player recently confirmed plans to launch his own festival.

Harvest Festival will take place in the grounds of his own farm, mixing home produce with a carefully selected bill. The Kooks have agreed to headline, previewing material from their otherwise top secret third album.

Launching a new Battle of the Bands competition, Alex James is set to give the seal of approval to one lucky young group.

Held in conjunction with Olympus, the new competition offers a slot at Harvest to one lucky band. A place on the main stage awaits, with the full prize including VIP tickets, a recording sessions and a new Olympus LS-20 – HD audio with HD movies recorder.

In a neat twist, the competition will be run entirely online. Alex James will judge all the entrants, with bands able to submit their music via a dedicated Facebook page. The former Blur bass player will whittle down the entries to a manageable shortlist, before fans vote for their favourite entry.

Full details will be held on the Facebook page, including snippets from the nominated bands and all related voting activity. There’s only a few weeks left to get involved, with new uploads every day.

Of course, Alex James has previous for this sort of thing. The former Blur bassist took part in Channel 4’s Mobile Acts Unsigned series, which boosted the careers of Envy & Other Sins, Hip Parade and Tommy Reilly.

Harvest Festival runs between September 9th – 11th.
