Alan Vega, Alex Chilton and Ben Vaughn walk into a room…
No, it's not a slightly obscure avant garde one liner – it actually happened. The three musicians recorded a little known collaborative LP in 1994 which is about to be re-issued.
'Cubist Blues' revolved around two late night jam sessions, featuring a truly stellar cast. Alan Vega: "I showed up with lyrics for one song and figured we would see what happened. Little did I know, we would record for hours and hours. By the last song, my brain was burning up. I literally felt myself on fire. I was depleted. Yet, we could have gone on and on."
Light In The Attic is set to re-issue 'Cubist Blues', alongside the only two live shows the collective ever played. Initially released on Henry Rollins' 2.13.61 label via Thirsty Ear, the record sank without trance during its initial incarnation – this time round, it will hopefully reach a more appreciative audience.
