Today, Nation of Language‘s Aidan Noell has released ‘Sharevari’ – a reinvention of A Number of Names’ pre-eminent techno track.
Featuring LCD Soundsystem‘s Nancy Whang, ‘Sharevari’ is a contemporary reimagination of the classic heralded as the first ever piece of Detroit techno music.
Produced by Nick Millhiser of Holy Ghost!, ‘Sharevari’s 2022 reinvention melds trance and synth for an electronic dance-floor filler. Dark, overlapping synthesisers conjure images of an exclusive underground club – sweaty and brimming with throbbing repetitive vocals that posit the chorus as a ravers’ war cry.
‘Sharevari’ marks the third solo release from Noell, best known for her work as a member of the rising synth-pop band Nation of Language.

Noell explains the track’s fantastical powers of escapism: “Making this song became about being someone else for a little while. At a time when everything around us is difficult and grating and extremely real, for these six minutes I indulge in a total fantasy – an alternate universe, both of the past and future, that’s mysterious and sexy and fun.”
