Nigerian star MohBad has died.
Speculation surrounding his passing swept across social media overnight, with the news being officially confirmed in a statement from his family.
Born in Lagos, MohBad blended Stateside rap elements into the afrobeats format, delivering something punchy and ambitious. The hits soon followed – the likes of ‘Ponmo, Feel Good’ have become anthems for a generation of fans.
Signed to Naira Marley’s Marlian Records imprint, he departed the label last year. Hugely talented, MohBad had a difficult relationship with fame. After news of his passing broke, a video from Bella Shmurda went viral, discussing MohBad’s mental health issues.
In addition to this, a powerful statement from his girlfriend reiterated the pressures MohBad faced:
“He was never happy for a whole day, he was called a mad person, a junkie so the public would have another view of him…”
