Albarn, Marr Joins Forces

Damon Albarn, Johnny Marr and Flea are among the all star cast of musicians who joined forced last night (October 22nd) for the Africa Exprez concert.

Part of the BBC Electric Proms, Africa Exprez features a host of top musicians from the Western world playing with some of the biggest names in African music. The collaborations involve little to no rehearsal time, with the musicians meeting each other only hours before.

The massive concert ran from 8.30pm to 3am but due to the sheer wealth of talent on show few acts played more than three songs. Albarn welcomed the sold out audience by saying “we are making it up as we go along, so we can’t tell you what’s coming up, but I hope you enjoy yourselves!”

Amongst the highlights of the evening’s entertainment were African duo Amadou and Mariam bring joined by a band that included The Magic Numbers’ Romeo Stodart, Albarn and Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr.

Amongst the other highlights were Hard-Fi’s perhaps inappropriate cover of The Cure’s ‘Killing An Arab’ and a mass of musicians and MCs jamming on The Chemical Brothers ‘Galvanise’.
