Adrianne Lenker has shared a new six-track EP ‘i won’t let go of your hand’ in aid of a Palestinian charity.
The songwriter’s new studio album ‘Bright Future’ is out on March 22nd, but the creativity isn’t about to stop there. The American artist has just shared an all-new EP of six unreleased songs, with all proceeds going to Palestine Children’s Relief Fund.
The six-tracker is online now – it won’t be made available to stream, so you’ll just have to buy it. In a note, Adrianne Lenker comments:
this is a new collection of songs i cherish, which were recorded in the moments they were written.
Find the music on Bandcamp right now.
Elsewhere, she writes:
Everything I think to say feels like it is less than a micro-fraction of the power that is needed to convey the message. I can’t express how sad and angry I am about this ongoing violence towards Palestinians. The killing must stop. The need for a ceasefire is beyond urgent. Permanent Ceasefire Now!
Big Thief organised some shows in Israel in 2022, a decision that resulted in considerable criticism before they were cancelled. Speaking to New York Times, Adrianne Lenker reflected on this, admitting that it was “naïve and not thought out” to believe they could announce shows in Israel without causing criticism.
Admitting that the storm could have broken the band up, she said they reached out to “people who are smarter than us” before pulling the concerts. Concluding, Adrianne Lenker noted that the situation reminded her that “all right, I have to work on myself, always.”
