Dub legend Adrian Sherwood is set to return later this year with new album ‘Survival & Resistance’.
A truly Jamaican phenomenon, dub make a colossal impact on British shores. Sparking an entire generation of sound magicians, Adrian Sherwood’s On-U Sound project has spent three decades exploring the infinite possibilities of the echo chamber.
Now the producer has outlined plans for a new album. ‘Survival & Resistance’ will be released on August 20th, with Adrian Sherwood seemingly viewing the LP as part of a trio established by 2003’s ‘Never Trust A Hippy’ and 2006’s ‘Becoming A Cliché’.
Seemingly inspired by the recent London riots and the growing divide between rich / poor in this country, ‘Survival & Resistance’ appears to be a typically righteous offering from the legendary dub producer.
The Quietus have a quote from Adrian Sherwood, illuminating a few aspects of his forthcoming album. “I’ve really spent hours and hours studying aspects of sound and production, and I’m still doing it. A lot of other people may have made lots of money, but they couldn’t even sell one tune anymore”.
“I’ve had my times, I’ve had the greatest experiences in the world, worked with all my heroes, and I’m still able to do it. I can still go out and play to a young crowd for two hours, and have a really good vibe, and I can make records. That, for me, is proper.”
Looking ahead, Adrian Sherwood is set to drop past the Village Underground on July 13th. Using the name Dub Sessions Volume 1, the tantalising line up also includes Africa Hitech, Kwesachu and Ross Allen.
‘Survival & Resistance’ is due to be released on August 20th.
