Few performers now have the stature, the popularity to cut through the incessant noise of the internet.
Well, Adele can just about manage it. The globally successful singer toasted her 26th birthday at the weekend, and tweeted a cryptic birthday message to fans.
Posting a selfie, Adele wrote: "Bye bye 25… See you again later in the year x"
Woah. Wait a minute.
"See you again later in the year" – could this be a reference to a new album? After all, '19' and '21' were both named in honour of the year's the singer wrote the material.
Looks like we'll have to be patient…
