Adele ‘Proud’ Of Her Weight

“I don’t want to be some skinny mini"

Adele has responded to Karl Lagerfield’s comments on her weight, revealing that she doesn’t “want to be some skinny mini”.

Taking time off to recuperate after undergoing throat surgery, Adele is now on the comeback trail. Giving a series of Stateside interviews, the Tottenham singer is looking ahead to this Sunday’s (February 12th) Grammy awards ceremony – where she is nominated in a total of six categories.

However amongst the first tasks facing the singer after leaving hospital is defusing a potential row with Karl Lagerfield. Lagerfield recently guest edited the Stateside magazine Metro (not to be confused with the UK publication…) and made a number of comments about Adele.

“The thing at the moment is Adele” he wrote. “She is a little too fat, but she has a beautiful face and a divine voice.”

Causing a stir, Karl Lagerfield then expanded on his comments: “I lost over 30 kilos over 10 years ago and have kept it off. I know how it feels when the press is mean you to you in regards to your appearance … Adele is a beautiful girl. She is the best. And I can’t wait for her next CD.”

Speaking to People magazine (via New York Post), Adele responded to the comments: “I’ve never wanted to look like models on the cover of magazines,” she said. “I represent the majority of women and I’m very proud of that.”

Elsewhere, Adele has given an interview to Anderson Cooper on ’60 Minutes’ in which she tackles the issue further. “I’ve never seen magazine covers and music videos and been like ‘I need to look like that to be a success,’” she said.

“I don’t want to be some skinny mini with my tits out. I really don’t want to do it and I don’t want people confusing what it is that I am about.”

The Grammy awards take place this Sunday (February 12th).
