AC/DC Hit Top Spot

'Black Ice' UK Number One Album

Australian hard rockers AC/DC have claimed the UK number one albums slot with their much anticipated album ‘Black Ice’ it has been announced.

The band have been on a break since the release of ‘Stiff Upper Lip’ in 2000, and this album was a return to their early blues-influenced period. AC/DC soared into number one slot by some distance, outselling nearest rivals Kaiser Chiefs by nearly two copies to one.

‘Black Ice’ was only released on physical formats, due to the band’s dislike of download suppliers. In a recent interview guitarist Angus Young explained that AC/DC dislike the ability to download single tracks, believing that the band’s material should be heard in the context of an album.

Elsewhere in the charts, Kaiser Chiefs ‘Off With Their Heads’ entered at number two, while Kings Of Leon’s ‘Only By The Night’ is still selling strongly at number three.

In the singles chart, Girls Aloud snapped up the number one position with new release ‘The Promise’. Razorlight scored highly with their single ‘Wire To Wire’ hitting number five, while bearded Southern US indie gods Kings Of Leon sit comfortably at number four.
