AC/DC Global Success

Album Number One In 29 Countries

Australian hard rockers AC/DC have topped the charts in an astonishing 29 countries with their new album ‘Black Ice’ – the band’s first in 8 years.

The veteran group have topped the chart in 29 countries, despite the album not being available on iTunes. The band boycott download services, claiming that their songs must be heard within the context of an album.

Released globally on October 20th, ‘Black Ice’ immediately shot to the top of the British charts and has also stormed America. The album has sold 780,000 copies in the US alone, despite the fact that AC/DC have restricted distribution to Walmart, Sam’s Club and the band’s website.

AC/DC’s breakthrough album – and first with current singer Brian Johnson – ‘Back In Black’ was a massive success on its release in 1980. It remains one of America’s best selling albums ever, but strangely never reached pole position. ‘Black Ice’ is only the second US number one the band have had in their career – the first was 1981’s ‘For Those About To Rock We Salute You’.

AC/DC kicked off their world tour last night (October 28th) in Pennsylvania. The group hit the UK in April next year.
