One of the first British groups to truly grasp the Acid House explosion, 808 State set about crafting a British vision of the disparate scene.
Remarkably, they took the sound into the mainstream. Imbued with a wonky sax solo, 1989’s ‘Pacific State’ became an absolute anthem – even gaining the group a Top Of The Pops slot.
Since then, though, stardom has faded. Today (January 8th) keyboard player Darren Partington received an 18 month jail sentence for dealing drugs.
The musician was stopped by police last year, who uncovered wraps of heroin and crack cocaine and £145 in cash. Manchester Evening News reports that the keyboard player began dealing drugs after running up debts with his own supplier.
Admitting possession with intent to supply, Darren Partington was sentenced at Manchester Crown Court.
