Indie label offer sampler

Indie powerhouse 4AD have offered fans a free download sampler of their current roster.

Founded in 1979, 4AD is one of Britain’s most respected independent labels. Originally a subsidiary of Beggar’s Banquet the label was intended to be a testing ground for new talent, a role it relished.

Early signings including goth rock pioneers Bauhaus before the label hit a golden run towards the end of the 80s. Releasing records by bands such as Pixies and Throwing Muses the label earned a reputation as a trailblazer.

Establishing the ‘4AD Sound’ through dream pop groups such as The Cocteau Twins, the label has grown and evolved with the passing of time and trend.

2009 saw 4AD score a number of massive success stories. The label snapped up noise rock duo The Big Pink who went on to place the single ‘Dominoes’ in the Top 40 before releasing a critically acclaimed debut album.

In addition to this 4AD also had the privilege of releasing the charity compilation ‘Dark Was The Night’. Masterminded by The National’s Aaron and Bryce Dessner the all star compilation raised over £500,000 for the Red Hot Organisation.

As always there were countless releases that may have passed fans by. Scottish indie pop group Camera Obscura released their latest album ‘My Maudlin Career’ and were joined by a torrent of talent on 4AD.
