Parisian-Polynesian quintet 15 15, formerly known as QuinzeQuinze, have teased a new creative chapter, the EP ‘SAPLIN’ out April 26th.
The news comes with turbocharged first offering ‘Baon’, a dedication to the Ori deck sound and car enthusiasts of Polynesia; a manifestation of the quintet’s renewed focus on Tahitian traditions and iconograpy combined with western-derived club rhythms and styles.
Speaking on the inspiration behind the EP, 15 15 share: “[It’s] the desire to capture the carefree spirit and vitality of Tahiti’s island youth through a contemporary and artistic lens. By adopting the term “saplin” (a local term used as an insult to refer to people who cannot be taken seriously, carefree, or dilettante) from the local culture as the EP’s central theme, we aim to celebrate the simplicity and letting go that are inherent to this culture. In essence, the inspiration lies in the desire to blend Polynesian cultural roots with modern influences to create an authentic and captivating musical narrative.”
To commemorate ‘SAPLIN’, 15 15 will be putting on a special three-day SAPLIN CLUB festival (April 4th-6th) at the Paris underground venue Point Ephémère. The festival will celebrate the Tahitian culture, lifestyle and the mindset of the “Saplins”.
