Remember when Kanye West got himself into a rather embarassing, intoxicated state and ruined the hopes and dreams of a prospective young popstar with one cutting interjection? Well, with such synchronism you’d think it was planned (this whole film was recorded before the Taylor Swift event), Spike Jonze has released a new short film entitled ‘We Were Once A Fairytale’, an eleven minute piece in which Kanye West gets himself in a rather embarassing, intoxicated state.
In usual Jonze manner, the obvious is shied from for much of the film, with POV visuals galore and repeated, yet apt, use of Kanye’s very own ‘See You In My Nightmares Pt 2’. So as to preview, and not review (aka spoil it for everyone), the underlying meaning really comes clear at the ending, with birth and death references, personal demons incarnate and a quite unique use of rose petals.
