Valerie June: ‘Pushin’ Against A Stone’ Teaser

Watch it now...

There's an inherent contradiction in Valerie June.

Listening to her material, you can sense a life lived – the Jackson, Tennessee artist speaks of love lost, missed opportunities and a tough resilience against the slings and arrows that fate and fortune throw her way.

Yet there's also a serenity, a zen like calmness which radiates from her. Performing live, Valerie June seemed to become absorbed in her music with the American singer closing her eyes and hunching her arms around her battered guitar.

Currently putting the finishing touches to debut album 'Pushin' Against A Stone' Valerie June has handed ClashMusic a very special clip.

Shot in Nashville, the video features Valerie June in the studio belonging to producer Dan Auerbach (of Black Keys fame) and Kevin Augunas (Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, Florence & The Machine). Showcasing the construction of her debut album, Auerbach is shown advising the singer while co-writer Kevin Augunas offers support throughout.

Yet Valerie June still steals the scene. Performing breakthrough track 'Workin' Woman Blues' through a vintage guitar and beat up amp, the camera veers away to showcase the sights of Nashville – America's 'Music City' and a gateway to the deep South.

Pictured alone, there's a stillness, a peace surrounding Valerie June which seeps through the performance. Trains come and go, traffic blazes past but still it's just her and her guitar…

Watch it now.
