The Flight are at once familiar and unknown.
A production team, Joe Henson and Alexis Smith have worked with some huge names. Armed with a glittering CV, the pair have managed to match their success with a degree of anonymity – Clash could honestly walk past them in the street without noticing.
Which is the way it should be. For The Flight, music is all important and – thankfully – new EP 'The Hangman' sounds extremely important indeed.
An opening salvo from the production team, 'The Hangman' EP will be followed by a series of collaborations with guest artists, all leading up to their debut album.
For now, though, all we have to go on is the title cut. 'The Hangman' is essentially a re-tooling of 'Pretty Polly', the infamous murder ballad which has inspired everyone from Bob Dylan to Nick Cave.
Re-tooled for the 21st century, the moral remains the same but the sounds shift – 'The Hangman' may be a folk song, but the production owes more to the intense, bass weight of Massive Attack or the intersection of analog-digital which fuels Radiohead.
Backed with an intricate, animated clip 'The Hangman' points towards something very exciting indeed.
Watch it now.
