Sweet Baboo recently became entranced by the music of Northern Soul.
The small, intense, scene of crate-diggers, DJs and (especially) dancers caught his imagination, providing new stimulus to his writing.
Upcoming EP 'Dennis' reflects this, featuring a cover of The Exciters' soul classic 'Blowing Up My Mind'.
Sweet Baboo explains: "'Blowing Up My Mind' is a northern soul classic. It was originally recorded by The Exciters. We recorded it as a B-side to Got To Hang On To You (we namecheck The Exciters and the song in my song). It’s a pretty faithful rendition of the original."
A faithful cover, this new version of 'Blowing Up My Mind' provides a further tie between indie pop and rare soul. Dive in below.
