From Motown to Four Tet, Steve Reid knew no boundaries.
A technically superb drummer, he mixed this with a tremendous empathy for the music going on around him. Channelling a variety of influences into his playing, a three year stint in Africa saw Steve Reid add something tribal, something instinctive.
An unlikely career renaissance saw Steve Reid work with Kieran Hebden, introducing his music to a new generation. A free jazz veteran and an icon of British electronic, the pair were an odd couple but their relationship resulted in four tremendous albums.
Crafting thought provoking music to the end, Steve Reid sadly passed away yesterday (April 13th) at his home in New York.
