slowthai has shared the full video for ‘YUM’.
The rapper’s new album ‘UGLY’ is out now, the title acting as an acronym for U Gotta Love Yourself. The story of a failed journey through therapy, it’s about self-improvement and relishing your flaws, with slowthai placing his contradictions down on record.
Hitting the road for a breakneck run of UK pub – with entry capped as a quid – slowthai has just shared the full video for album cut ‘YUM’. A caustic piece of noise, it finds the rapper’s mind working overdrive – “More coke, more weed, more E’s, more trips…”
Seemingly the final song completed for the album, it found slowthai working alongside producer Dan Carey, with additional production from Zach Nahome. slowthai comments:
“’Yum’ is me saying this is what people want me to do but this isn’t doing anything for me. I’m ready to leave it all behind but it keeps pulling me back — more this, more that, it’s never enough.”
The video is a dark journey into excess, but as ever there’s also a cartoonish element. Tune in now.
slowthai will play a full UK run in September, including London’s Alexandra Palace on September 22nd.
