Beatles legend Sir Paul McCartney returned to New York recently, to perform three historic concerts at Citi Field.
Built on the site of the former Shea Stadium, the venue was home to The Beatles for a number of memorable shows in the mid 60s. Marking the peak of Beatlemania the Fab Four played to enormous crowds, rattling through their classic early material.
Sir Paul McCartney referenced those Shea Stadium shows during his Citi Field stint, playing the frenzied rocker ‘I’m Down’. A tribute of sorts to Little Richard the song is a rocking 12 bar and originally appeared as the B-side to ‘Help!’.
Making a rare live appearance during the Citi Field shows, ‘I’m Down’ represents the side of Sir Paul McCartney that will forever be a leather jacket wearing rock ‘n’ roll fan.
