Roska x Jamie George – Secret Love

A cross over moment?

UK Funky gets a bad rep.

Sure, the much hyped sound didn't quite become the force which many predicted it would, but the genre left behind some absolute bangers.

Roska was there from the start, adding house textures to Grime beats, all squeezed into a trim 130 BPM tempo. A force in electronic music, Roska's latest track could well become a crossover moment.

With the house resurgence allowing any number of bass dons to slap some soulful house touches on their productions, the time could well be right for the Funky pioneer to stake his claim. 'Secret Love' might be just the trick.

The producer is all sharp snares and cymbals, a jagged, sparse take on the Funky blueprint which nods towards the melancholy inherent in those early Grime plates. Vocals come courtesy of Jamie George, and – whilst undoubtedly soulful – there's a nagging melancholy here.

Good times music for the recession era, it comes backed with a video shot in black and white, alternating between speakers and lips.

Watch it now.
