Zed Penguin hinges on the imagination of Matthew Winter, a songwriter only recently transplanted to Edinburgh.
Exploring the city's creative communities, his background in left-field composition turned these fresh influences into something quite distinct.
Second single 'The Source Of My Dreams' owes a debt to a dusty old folk night, with Matthew seated in the back-room of an Edinburgh pub.
Suddenly, an old woman got up and sang completely unaccompanied – hushed to silence, the room was left with a profoundly emotive impact.
Using this as a root, Zed Penguin began to explore how he could use a capella within his own work, blending this with distorted instrumentation.
New song 'The Source Of My Dreams' is the result. Matthew explains: "The song is a reflection on the theme of embracing solitude and balancing the head with the heart: The Ghost and The Beast. The video, made by my friend Steven MacGregor, is just me singing. Like a cappella vocals, this simplicity represents directness, with the visuals mirroring the guitar effects."
