Premiere: Young Magic – Holographic

'Breathing Statues' highlight gains visuals...

Brooklyn has always been a meeting place, a borough in a continual state of flux.

Young Magic formed in Brooklyn, but owe their origins to Australia and Indonesia. Debut album 'Melt' was a beautiful introduction, a fragrant and intoxicating blend of dream pop hymnals and deft samples.

Follow up 'Breathing Statues' finds the band focussing less on sound, but more on songcraft. Sure, that somnambulist touch is still there, but Young Magic place more emphasis on structure, on the rise and fall of their tumbling narratives.

Album highlight 'Holographic' feels only semi-real, as if waking from a drowsy slumber. The accompanying visuals are shot in the city, with the astonishing rush of daily life sitting opposed to the quiet stillness of internal life.

Directed by Johann Rashid and Young Magic, the clip flits between the Catskills and New York City.
