Thus Owls are based in Montreal, a city whose creative community seems to stretch across every surface, extend into every building.
For their new album, the central songwriting duo – Erika and Simon Angell – decided to reach outwards, to connect with a larger group of musicians.
Using a seven strong band, Thus Owls started recording live off the floor at Hotel2Tango in Montreal.
New album 'The Mountain That We Live Upon' is the result, a probing, bewitching, astonishingly creative return from the group.
We're able to share album highlight 'Future/Past', which comes complete with devastating visuals laid down by Erika Angell.
The director explains: "I often dream in strong and surreal colours, colours that I never experience in my awake life. I wanted this element in the video. I also wanted the video to make you feel lost and confused, but then quickly euphoric and as if anything is possible. I wanted these different states to exist simultaneously to explain the mixed emotion of the song."
Startling, fascinating, and perfectly balanced, you can watch the video for 'Future/Past' below.
'The Mountain That We Live Upon' will be released on September 29th.
