Premiere: Thought Forms Live Session

A full set from the Bristol doom-gazers...

Categorising Bristol trio Thought Forms – Charlie Romijn, Deej Dhariwal and Guy Metcalfe – doesn’t come too easy. They rock, for sure, but theirs is a considered, delicately managed sound, in terms of its procession from gently stirring rumbles to euphoric crashes. Heavy, yep – but there’s sense to this act’s supersized riffing, method to their menacing tones.

What are we saying, then? Post-rocking doom-gazing epic-core? Something like that. Whatever box we’re not slipping the threesome into, their righteously raucous rackets piqued the ears of the Invada Records crew, who’ve put out two long-players by the band. The latest, ‘Ghost Mountain’, emerged in February to considerable acclaim, and they’ve played festivals including Green Man and ArcTanGent this summer.

Next on the Thought Forms agenda: performances in Poland with Adrian Utley’s (of Portishead) Guitar Orchestra, followed by a tour alongside similarly ambitious UK outfits Esben And The Witch and Teeth Of The Sea (Clash news on said jaunt). Those dates are available below. The band also calls at the final ATP weekender, and plays the Beak>-curated Sonic City Festival in Belgium. Busy!

The above video, which Clash is pleased as punch to premiere, features a full set from Thought Forms, recorded live at Nine Volt Leap (website) in Melksham, Wiltshire. Go on: pump a fist, why not. Or just nod along at your desk, like we are.

The setlist:

'Burn Me Clean'
'Ghost Mountain, You And Me'
'Landing'
'Only Hollow'
'Song For Junko'
