Steve Earle has recorded a rendition of the Ewan MacColl classic 'Dirty Old Town' – check it out first on Clash.
Ewan MacColl is one of the true heroes of British folk music, a man who helped power and spearhead the revival of traditional music in the post-war era.
New album 'Joy Of Living: A Tribute To Ewan MacColl' reflects his impact, with a host of artists recording fresh versions of classic material on the 100th anniversary of the singer's birth.
American artist Steve Earle has paid his respects with a version of 'Dirty Old Town'. A folk club staple, The Pogues took the track into the charts in the 80s and Earle adds a touch of Americana to this staple account of working class life in an industrial town.
