Murphykid's first calling was music.
A talented songwriting, his vivid imagination let him down all kinds of dreamy rabbitholes, constructing fragrant indie folk that seemed not of this world.
'The Underground' was meant to be his debut single, but due to a deafening array of factors out-with his control it was shelved.
Deciding to pursue design and illustration, Murphykid would occasionally return to those initial batch of songs, tinkering with them and wondering what could have been.
With his long-awaited debut album finally due to be released this year the songwriter has returned to 'The Underground', using it as the lead for his much-delayed project.
Gilded songwriting that retains its mystery, his softly beguiling vocal adds a gentle sense of intensity to his work. Murphykid comments:
"The Underground is that song that many an aspiring songwriter has likely written upon first moving to the big city – feelings of loneliness and alienation. In my case, whilst trudging back and forth on the Northern Line between a terrible flat in Finchley and an awful call centre in Soho."
"The cliches didn’t stop when we recorded it at an isolated cottage on the Yorkshire Dales in the gloom of a freezing February. An open fire, wind whistling down the chimney, rain at the windows, probably a dog howling somewhere…With any luck, the atmosphere of the surroundings come through on the end result.”
