Travel broadens the mind, or so they say.
If that's the case, then that explains the breadth of Matthew Edwards' imagination.
Brought up in Birmingham, the singer decamped to San Francisco where he immersed himself in the city's music scene. Forming The Music Lovers, the band released three albums before dissolving, with Edwards left to travel through the Mojave desert and on into Mexico.
Now back in England, Matthew Edwards And The Unfortunates are a new, Trans-Atlantic partnership. New album 'The Fates' drops via Metal Postcard Records on November 3rd, but ahead of this Clash has a little surprise.
'The English Blues' is a probing, powerful, poignant piece of songwriting. Peter Locke supplies the visuals, with Matthew Edwards commenting: "The video was shot at the Lucky 13 bar in San Francisco. The long shot was created by pushing Peter slowly on a skateboard then slowing the film down. Loosely it reflects idle hours or idle lives and being an Englishman learning who he is in a foreign place. Contemplating his relationship with England in a bar in California."
