A law unto itself, Chicago has a habit of nurturing truly distinct figures.
Take Liam Hayes. The songwriter has been making oddball guitar pop since 1994, alternating between his own name and nom de guerre Plush.
Handed a cameo in the film version of ‘High Fidelity’, Liam Hayes has earned enormous plaudits from fellow songwriters. Finally gaining some recognition on this side of the Atlantic, new album ‘Slurrup’ is out this week via Fat Possum.
It’s an enthralling return. All bizarre psych-pop shapes and classic power pop melodies, ‘Slurrup’ is both instantly infectious and difficult to fully wrap your head around.
Clash is able to premiere the video for ‘Fokus’. An appropriate starting off point for any Liam Hayes adventure, it features the sunglasses-clad singer attempting to get things together in the studio.
