Premiere: Leo Stannard – ‘Lost’

A lilting acoustic version...

Leo Stannard is flexible.

Snapped up by Black Butter the London-based artist has worked with a number of producers, but the core of his songwriting remains the same.

Each track could be placed in a different setting, a different environment, but it would stretch and adapt to its surroundings.

Case in point? Well, Clash has obtained a tripped back, acoustic version of 'Lost'. It's a song that resonates personally with Leo, based on events in his own life:

"'Lost' came about after I confronted one of my closest friends about their lack of direction in life. It was a time when we’re all making decisions about university, work and what to do next – and this friend of mine had so much to offer but was far too easily influenced by others which was heartbreaking to see."

A soft, tender recording, it recalls John Martyn in its dexterous guitar work – but the voice is sheer Leo Stannard.
