Guy Andrews is a lingering presence in British electronic music, with the composer's catalogue stretching back across a full decade.
Continually challenging himself and those around him, Guy's approach seems to constantly ask questions, adding fresh elements as he sees fit.
New album 'Tåke' is out now on Houndstooth, with its brooding atmospherics partially inspired by a visit to Scandinavia.
He explains: “I had some extra time to explore Bergen, the city where I was staying. I ended walking up a small mountain and at the top was greeted by a stunning view of Norway's fjords – it was such a stark contrast to where I was living at the time that it inspired me to write music that reflects the reward you get from exploring new environments.”
Album highlight 'Feelings' matched those slow-burning electronics to some beautifully composed strings, with Alev Lenz supplying a softly devastating vocal.
Jan Urbanowski crafts the visuals, a heavyweight document that lingers on the spectral while remaining true to the aesthetics of the track itself.
Guy Andrews explains: "Jan captures the essence of the song with his video interpretation – he programmed the film so that the particles that make up Alev's face react to individual instruments and textures within the composition, creating a sense of feedback, sonic and visual elements working together. It was a pleasure to work with Jan at Tomato, such an iconic studio."
Tune in now.
