Premiere: Flyying Colours – Wavy Gravy

Australian shoegaze newcomers with a rock kick...

Melbourne is one of Australia's artistic hubs.

With a bustling music scene, the city has a supportive, communal atmosphere which has begun to attract songwriters from across Australia and beyond.

Flyying Colours are part of a burgeoning movement within the city which is looking towards alt rock sounds of the early 90s for inspiration – think the primordial grunge of Dinosaur Jr or even the more physical end of shoegaze.

Placing debut track 'Wavy Gravy' online last year, the Melbourne group quickly gained acclaim, sparking a chase for their signature before English label Club AC30 snapped them up.

The group's self-titled debut EP is due to be released on March 10th, five tracks which neatly set out their ambition, their ability to fuse all-out noise with deft, nagging melodic hooks.

Clash is able to premiere the video for 'Wavy Gravy' and it's blistering from start to finish. Kevin Shields-inspired shadows linger, while there are definitely traces of Swervedriver in that rock assault.

Yet the whole thing is wrapped in such energy, such colour that it's difficult to say this belongs to anyone other than Flyying Colours.

Watch it now.
