Greece is perhaps the most visible victim of the global economic downturn.
The country is besieged by debt, with unemployment remaining high. A generation of young people have been forced to look elsewhere for opportunity, with many deciding to emigrate permanently.
Two members of Electric Litany are Greek, but chose to launch their career in London. The band's 2010 debut album 'How To Be A Child And Win The War' was a brooding, bruising piece of post-punk, with deeply lo-fi attitudes – which went on to become a cult success in Greece.
Since then, the band's intensity, the depth of their approach has only deepened. New album 'Enduring Days You Will Overcome' is out today (February 21st) with Alan Parsons assisting the group on production duties.
Taken from the new album, 'Feather of Ecstasy' opens with martial, Joy Division style drums before opening out in a widescreen synth landscape.
Reminiscent of (early) Editors or even Bauhaus, there's a beauty to their melancholy, a redemptive edge to their sorrow.
