When Clash first stumbled across Amber States, what was immediately apparent was the sheer potential within their songwriting.
Even Lianne La Havas was impressed, and became a frequent fixture at their live shows. Debut EP 'Saratoga' is out now, and last night (May 22nd) the band returned to London for a packed out live show.
It's easy to see where the momentum is coming from. Amber States have a sharp melodic sense, a contagious energy which is paired against a probing, often quite cerebral songwriting nous.
Stripped from their new EP, 'Loops' is one of the band's most blissfully straight-ahead moments.
There are hints of the Laurel Canyon school in here, beautifully gilded songcraft with a softly melancholic edge.
Check it out now.
