Alex Hepburn was born in London.
Yet – despite impressive levels of recognition from elsewhere in Europe – the rising singer is able to walk the capital's streets freely, with barely a hint of recognition.
All that is set to change over the next few months. Alex Hepburn dropped past the Notting Hill Arts Club recently, and the sheer confidence of her performance left many gasping for breath.
As seductive as her studio recordings are, the live environment is really where the London born artist belongs. During her brief stopover in the city, Alex Hepburn recorded a short live session demonstrating her capacity for impressing in the most intimate of environments.
Accompanied only by an acoustic guitar, this rendition of 'Pain Is' lets it all hang out. Wringing every inch of emotion from the song, Alex Hepburn recalls the no-holds-barred approach of her idols – think Etta James, Bettye Swann, Motown's own Brenda Holloway – yet the delivery, the approach is all her own.
Clash is extremely pleased to be able to showcase the clip before anywhere else.
