The space race is kaput.
The rush to the stars is over. But wait – it’s the 21st century. Weren’t we supposed to be living in space pods by now?
Paul Thomas Saunders certainly seems to think so. A psychedelic troubadour, his output is one part acoustic introspection and one part cosmonaut of inner space.
‘A Lunar Veteran’s Guide to Re-entry’ is a fairly good example. An (re-)entry point into the songwriter’s material, there’s a thoughtfulness here which displays a soft, emotional side.
Yet there’s also a bravery in that naivety. Paul Thomas Saunders has the bottle to name his song ‘A Lunar Veteran’s Guide to Re-entry’ and for that – we salute him.
