Part of a wave of new groups rampaging around the capital, Novella seem to have that little bit extra.
Perhaps it's charisma. The band straddle the stage, all collapsing fringes and dive-bomb guitars with cymbals crashing in the background. Or perhaps it's their vital songcraft, matching hissing feedback to flower-soft melodies. Whatever, they've got us hooked.
New single 'Mary's Gun' is out now, with Novella delivering perhaps their most concise, potent statement to date. Three minutes of sugar-sweet pop music with an evil stare, the singer comes backed with a new video. Previews emerged earlier this month, with grainy footage of the band performing matched to crashing waves and squealing seagulls.
Watch it now.
