In a way, the label 'folk music' is entirely anonymous.
After all, the traditional song structures which underpinned British music for centuries can be felt everywhere. However there are those who wish to re-trace their steps, to expose these faultlines and then explore entirely fresh territory.
Part of the community which informs The Leaf Label, Nancy Elizabeth has never denied her attraction towards history, towards tradition. Yet she is also keen to venture forwards, thrusting her music in new directions.
Latest album 'Dancing' is a case in point. Musing on the title, the songwriter produced a series of works which alternated between stately, structured paeans towards worlds lost and Futurist odes to possibility.
New single 'Simon Says Dance' seems to exemplify this. On the album, the track is sedate, led by piano and dominated by Nancy Elizabeth's vocals. This new version, though, is peppered with glitchy electronics and swirling effects.
Out on June 17th, ClashMusic has grabbed hold of the video especially for you…
