Honestly, sometimes it feels as though the Nordic nation has some top secret formula, one that can turn ordinary folks into blinding pop stars overnight.
MIO has no need of such a formula, however, with the Swedish newcomer notching up pure gold first time out.
'High On Me' is the first of four singles that will form the backbone of a new EP, a scorching statement from the enigmatic newcomer.
The song focusses on the end of the honeymoon period in a relationship, a bittersweet ode to finding out some uncomfortable aspects of your significant other.
MIO explains: "Writing the song I wanted to bring up the dilemma of what happens after the 'honeymoon period' has ended in a new relationship. When you begin to see the faults and imperfections in the other person and your relationship is being put to a test that you haven’t experienced before."
We're able to share the dazzling video, and it neatly encapsulates some of the lyrical themes MIO is exploring. The Swedish riser adds:
"The video very much represents that dilemma in a way I hope people can both relate to and maybe even find comfort in. It’s not always perfect, but if it’s the right person you’re with, then you try to make it work, but sometimes it just doesn’t…"
