Mazes – Skulking

Home made video...

Holed up in their own studio, Mazes analysed every aspect of the way they make music.

Shifting from a scratchy guitar band into something quite distinct, the band are about to deliver a very special second album. 'Ores & Minerals' finds the band toying with Krautrock influences, damaged electronics to supplement their increasingly probing guitar work.

Out on February 18th via Fat Cat, the band have dropped a few hints as to what fans can expect. The latest comes in the form of 'Skulking'.

A throbbing, intimidating work the track comes equipped with a video shot by Mazes’ own Conan Roberts. “As a band I'd say we're all pretty uncomfortable having our photos taken and being in videos. But as a life-long fan of music videos and a film maker, performance videos to me have always been the most interesting approach. I shot the video in a way as to have that performance element yet not make us all feel like performing monkeys and mirror the sense of repetition found musically in the edit. There's something fascinating about repetition and how your brain can warp the same image or musical note. There's subtlety and then there's emphasising a point relentlessly. It's more satisfying.”

Grainy, DIY and completely engrossing you can watch it now.
