Appearances can be deceiving.
After all, Matthew E. White might look like a Nick Cave style desperado but he croons as sweetly as a vintage Stevie Wonder. Hailing from Richmond, Virginia the songwriter's Domino backed debut album 'Big Inner' has become one of the year's most unusual crossover successes thus far.
Perhaps it's due to White's potent pop touch. Sure, the album might hang together as one, continuous piece of songwriting but 'Steady Pace' is a single in the true, classic sense. Sweet soul music with a left field touch, it's delivered with a rare sense of panache.
Out on May 6th, 'Steady Pace' comes equipped with an unusual video directed by Travis Robertson. Hailing from the same home town as Matthew E. White, this is a real conjunction of talents.
The clip is colourful, exotic yet it also has a real classic feel, much like 'Steady Pace' itself.
Watch it now.
