MADMADMAD’s ‘Mouse Rock’ Is… Mad

It's a bonkers piece of avant disco...

Everything MADMADMAD do is on purpose.

The London via France may sound chaotic – a frenzied fusion of disco, punk, analogue electronics, and surreal humour – but their approach is precise, constantly measured.

“Every movement’s manifestos have been a reason to question the what, why and how of artistic expression,” the band commented recently. “That includes questioning the manifesto itself.”

A manifesto, you say? Well, MADMADMAD have written down exactly what they want to pursue:

“MADMADMAD is the expression of our individual alienations and our mental disorder as a society. Which one feeds into the other is a mystery. Times are getting spectacularly absurd, hence, the arts’ response has to be absurd-er. Crazy how we all trick our common sense with irrational behaviours, as a person and as a society.”

“Absurdity and alienation is as much the trigger of our expression, as it is the outlet, the aim, the hope. And yet we dance. Hope meets irony. Absurdity reveals dualities. Misalignments produce infinite chaos. We’re not in control. If we are, we have nothing to show for it. We need to craft art as we craft chairs because passion and commitment only truly show through love of the work. A chair is a chair. Art is art. Art needn’t validation. Its purpose is simply fulfilled.”

New single 'Mouse Rock' lives up to these bold claims. A remarkable release, it channels Liquid Liquid, ESG, and Loose Joints, while retaining a smeared, opaque sense of originality.
