Lorde has shared the video for ‘Solar Power’ cut ‘Oceanic Feeling’.
If you could feel a trembling in the leylines over the weekend, then those energies were on the money: Lorde is continuing her ‘Solar Power’ journey with a new video.
The album may have been afforded a mixed reception – hey, we loved it – but the video drops have expanded on Lorde’s creative universe, giving her new platforms to work with.
Fan favourite cut ‘Oceanic Feeling’ neatly ties her ecological and personal concerns, one of the real highlights from her recent studio album. Co-directing the clip with Joel Kefali, Lorde notes in her newsletter that this video represents the final aspect of the visual documents surrounding ‘Solar Power’.
She writes: “It’s bittersweet to be coming to the end of this video journey, but amazing too, because this one is possibly my FAVOURITE video I’ve ever, ever made. Who you see in this video is who I truly am, or who I want to be – open, laid bare, water glittering on my skin, speaking directly to you, nothing to hide or prove, just me.”
Tune in now.
Could Lorde spring a further surprise this year? Chatting to fans onstage at London’s Roundhouse a few months back, the New Zealand artist revealed she’s in a more direct pop mode. Lorde commented:
“It’s so interesting to me how writing a big, bright pop song has been the thing that’s defined my life. This thing I started trying to do when I was 14-years-old because I would turn on the radio and love that feeling, what it did to me. It became like an addiction, I just wanted to keep trying to construct the perfect thing that would hit you in the heart emotionally, over three-and-a-half minutes…”
Also: there’s a partial solar eclipse in October 2022. Just sayin’ like.
