Kendrick Lamar Drops ‘Not Like Us’ Video

On the Fourth of July, no less...

Kendrick Lamar has shared the video for ‘Not Like Us’.

The track ended his war with Drake, and became an instant global smash. A bona fide chart hit, Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Not Like Us’ blended an infectious beat from Mustard, some of his most hard-hitting but accessible rhymes, and the odd bit of potential slander, too.

Getting under the skin of everyone who hears it, ‘Not Like Us’ has been missing one vital component – a music video.

The clip was placed online for the Fourth of July – Independence Day – and has immediately sent the internet into meltdown. Gaining more than one million plays on YouTube before K Dot even placed it on his social channels, the video is part of his bravura celebratory lap.

Fresh from that all-star event in Los Angeles, Kendrick Lamar unites with Dave East for the clip, and there’s a few noticeable symbols in the shoot.

The team construct an enormous piñata in the shape of an owl – is this a Drake reference? An oblique reference to OVO…?

Kendrick is joined by his partner Whitney and their children, dancing in the clip; it’s a visible push-back on some of Drake’s attack lines during his own diss songs.

With a cameo from DeMar DeRozan, the video reinforces Kendrick’s belief that Drake is “a colonizer” – perhaps that’s why he opted for an Independence Day drop…?
