Well Mr. West does – and here’s proof. The first single to be taken from his forthcoming ‘808’s and Heartbreak’ LP, ‘Love Lockdown’ abandons the buoyant mood of ‘Homecoming’ in favour of melancholy and Auto Tune.
Bristling with tribal drums, the Hype Williams video takes no chances and shanks subtly right out the equation – matching the songs solipsism and thundering beats with moody Kanye moping around his wanky flat whilst National Geographic stereotypes run amok. Before you start panicking though, there is still some neon in there and when it eventually gets going the song reveals a portmanteau of delights.
